What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Carvel's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the on-the-job training for franchisees is currently conducted at a Certified Training Location. These locations are Carvel shops that have been certified by Carvel as authorized training facilities. These Certified Training Locations may be located outside of the franchisee's state and may be operated by other Carvel franchisees.
The FDD also specifies the hours dedicated to on-the-job training for various subjects. For example, hourly employees receive 2 hours of on-the-job training in food safety and 52 hours in station/position training. Shift management does not have specified hours, but inventory, ordering, and scheduling each have 2 hours of on-the-job training.
For franchisees operating a third or subsequent Carvel shop, there's a possibility to conduct the Management Training Program themselves, provided they have a Certified Training Manager and operate a Certified Training Store. However, this is subject to Carvel's sole discretion. This offers experienced franchisees some flexibility in training their staff, but it's not guaranteed and depends on meeting Carvel's criteria.
