Carvel Franchise · 2025 FDDAnswer from 2025 FDD Document
If you sign a Franchise Agreement and you do not have a location for your Shoppe that is accepted by us ("Accepted Location"), your Franchise Agreement will identify a trade area that we negotiate with you in which you must locate an Accepted Location.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Carvel FDD, if a franchisee signs a Franchise Agreement but does not yet have an approved location for their Shoppe, the Franchise Agreement will specify a trade area negotiated with Carvel where the franchisee must find an acceptable location. This means that securing a location that meets Carvel's approval is a condition of the franchise agreement.
This process is typical in franchising, where the franchisor wants to ensure the location meets specific criteria to maximize the potential for success. The franchisee bears the responsibility of finding a site within the agreed-upon trade area, but Carvel retains the right to approve the location. This protects Carvel's brand and ensures consistency across all franchise locations.
Prospective Carvel franchisees should carefully consider the implications of this location approval process. It is crucial to understand Carvel's criteria for an "Accepted Location" and to factor in the time and resources required to find and secure a suitable site within the negotiated trade area. Franchisees should discuss these location criteria with Carvel during their due diligence to avoid potential delays or disputes later on.
