What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Carvel's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, while Carvel does not guarantee a specific amount of reduction in the initial franchise fee, it does outline circumstances under which a reduction may be considered. For qualifying veterans or members of the Armed Forces, the initial franchise fee for a Full Shoppe is $20,000, a reduction from the standard $30,500.
Carvel reserves the right to reduce the initial franchise fee under certain circumstances, including providing economic incentives for opening in specific locations, incentivizing existing operators to open additional shops, encouraging the reopening of closed shops, facilitating the takeover of operating shops, attracting professional multi-unit operators, or allowing franchisees to allocate more funds to shop improvements and marketing during the initial 12 months. The amount of any reduction is determined on a case-by-case basis, considering factors such as the condition of the premises, the need for upgrades, and any special circumstances.
The FDD indicates that during the 2024 calendar year, franchisees paid initial franchise fees ranging from $0 to $30,500, suggesting that significant reductions or waivers of the initial fee are possible depending on the specific circumstances and negotiations with Carvel. However, Carvel may modify or cease offering any discount or incentive programs at any time.
Prospective franchisees should inquire with Carvel about the specific criteria and processes for obtaining a reduction in the initial franchise fee, as well as any current discount or incentive programs available. Understanding these factors will be crucial in assessing the overall financial investment required to start a Carvel franchise.
