What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Carvel Franchise Disclosure Document, 'Required Trainees' primarily refers to those individuals who must complete the Management Training Program before the Carvel franchise opens. These trainees are mandated to finish the program at least one week before the franchise's scheduled opening date.
If the opening date is delayed and the training was completed more than 120 days before the revised opening, Carvel may require the trainees to attend an additional week of training, potentially incurring a daily training fee of $250 per trainee. Carvel retains the discretion to determine whether a trainee has successfully completed the program. If a trainee fails, they must re-enroll in the next scheduled program at no extra charge. However, Carvel can terminate the franchise agreement if none of the required trainees successfully complete the program after re-enrollment.
Furthermore, any Managers, Primary Contacts, and Directors of Operations hired or appointed after the franchise's opening, along with any other individuals Carvel designates, are considered 'Subsequent Trainees.' These Subsequent Trainees must also attend and successfully complete the Management Training Program (or a modified version) before becoming involved in the franchise's operations. Carvel may also require employees transferring from another Carvel location to complete the training program again. Franchisees must pay a training fee for each Subsequent Trainee, which is currently $250 per trainee per day, subject to annual adjustments.
