What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Carvel's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, generally, Carvel provides its Management Training Program to required trainees at no additional charge for the first two franchised businesses that a franchisee or their affiliates operate. However, for the third and subsequent Carvel franchises, the franchisee must pay Carvel's then-current Management Training Program fee for all required trainees to attend a single training session if Carvel requires or the franchisee elects to receive the training from Carvel or its designee.
Additionally, a Carvel franchisee must pay the then-current training fee for each trainee, which is currently $250 per trainee per day (subject to an annual increase), under specific circumstances. These circumstances include if the franchisee elects to bring additional trainees (beyond the required ones), if the required trainees are trained in separate sessions, if any required trainee fails to complete the program and re-enrolls or is replaced, or if Carvel provides the Management Training Program to subsequent trainees (those hired after the opening of the franchised business).
In summary, while initial training for the first two locations is typically covered, franchisees should anticipate training expenses for additional locations, extra trainees, re-training situations, or training of subsequent hires. It is important to note that these fees can change, with potential annual increases, so franchisees need to factor in ongoing training costs as part of their operational budget.
