What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Carvel's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Carvel has the option to collect all or a portion of a franchisee's Local Marketing Obligation and contribute it to the Advertising Cooperative. This means that instead of the franchisee directly managing all of their local advertising spend, Carvel can pool some or all of those funds and allocate them to the cooperative.
This arrangement provides Carvel with flexibility in how local marketing funds are utilized. Besides contributing to the Advertising Cooperative, Carvel can also use the funds to conduct national, regional, or local advertising directly, or spend it on local advertising initiatives. This allows Carvel to strategically direct marketing efforts based on the needs of the overall Carvel system or specific regions.
For a prospective Carvel franchisee, this means that the control over their local marketing spend may be partially or fully managed by Carvel. While this could reduce the franchisee's direct input on local campaigns, it also offers the potential benefit of leveraging Carvel's expertise and resources for more effective advertising. Franchisees should inquire about Carvel's specific policies and practices regarding the Local Marketing Obligation and the Advertising Cooperative to understand the extent of their control and input.
