Can certain Carvel franchisees provide portions of the Management Training Program?

Carvel Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

If you and your affiliates collectively operate two or more Shoppes, we may, in our sole discretion, permit (and reserve the right to require) you or your affiliates to provide the Management Training Program to your trainees. If we require or permit you or your affiliates to provide the Management Training Program to your trainees, before you or they may do so, one or more of your or their Shoppes must be certified by us as a Certified Training Location and one or more of your or their Managers must be certified by us as a trainer authorized to provide our Management Training Program to your trainees (a "Certified Training Manager").

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Carvel's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees who operate two or more Carvel Shoppes may be permitted or required to provide the Management Training Program to their trainees. However, this is at Carvel's discretion. To be eligible, one or more of the franchisee's Shoppes must be certified as a "Certified Training Location," and one or more of their managers must be certified as a "Certified Training Manager," authorized by Carvel to provide the training.

This presents both an opportunity and a responsibility for experienced Carvel franchisees. If a franchisee meets the criteria and is approved to conduct training, they can play a direct role in shaping the skills and knowledge of new Carvel team members. This could lead to a more consistent and high-quality training experience within their own organization.

However, franchisees must also be prepared to meet Carvel's standards for training. This includes maintaining a Certified Training Location and employing Certified Training Managers. The FDD does not specify the requirements to become a Certified Training Location or Manager, so prospective franchisees should inquire about these requirements to understand the full scope of this potential responsibility.

Ultimately, the ability to provide training is contingent on Carvel's approval and the franchisee's ability to meet the necessary qualifications. Franchisees should discuss this further with Carvel to fully understand the requirements and potential benefits of becoming a certified training provider.
