Under what circumstances might Carls Jr. revoke certification for a Certified Franchisee Training Restaurant or a Certified Franchisee Training Manager?

According to the 2025 Carls Jr. Franchise Disclosure Document, Carls Jr. has the sole discretion to revoke certification for a Certified Franchisee Training Restaurant or a Certified Franchisee Training Manager. If such a revocation occurs, Carls Jr. may require the franchisee's trainees to attend the Franchise Management Training Program (FMTP) at an alternate location designated by Carls Jr.

To be designated as a Certified Training Restaurant, a franchisee's restaurant must meet specific criteria. These include achieving compliance scores set by Carls Jr., fully complying with the current system standards, maintaining established personnel requirements in addition to having a Certified Franchisee Training Manager, and remaining compliant with all health department and other regulatory requirements. The restaurant must also meet any other requirements that Carls Jr. may specify from time to time.

To become a Certified Franchisee Training Manager, a General Manager must complete the FMTP, maintain specific food safety programs, attend any required additional training programs specified by Carls Jr., and meet other qualifications that Carls Jr. may specify. The revocation of certification could lead to additional costs and logistical challenges for the franchisee, as they would need to send their trainees to a different location for training.
