What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Carls Jr. Franchise Disclosure Document, the MIT Exam 1 classroom training takes place virtually, at a CTR location, or at a Designated Training Facility. This exam requires :30 hours of classroom training.
Carls Jr. provides the Franchise Management Training Program (FMTP) at no charge for the Operating Principal, General Manager, and 6 Shift Leaders, provided the training occurs within 2 years of signing the Franchise Agreement. The FMTP includes restaurant training at a designated Carls Jr. Restaurant and training on Star University, the online Learning Management System.
Carls Jr. also provides access to Star University (StarU), a management platform for administering, tracking, and reporting learning and development programs. The fee for using Star University is $14 per fiscal period (currently a 4-week accounting period), and franchisees must sign the Star University License Agreement. Franchisees are responsible for the costs of high-speed internet and hardware required for Star University, which is a required training tool.
