What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Carls's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the Operating Principal, who manages the day-to-day activities of the franchised restaurant, must successfully complete the FMTP (Franchise Management Training Program) and any additional training that Carls requires. This requirement ensures that the Operating Principal is well-prepared to oversee the restaurant's operations and financial performance.
The Operating Principal's role is critical, as they must have full control over the restaurant's operations, including maintaining operational standards. If the Operating Principal fails to meet Carls's requirements in markets with multiple franchised restaurants, Carls may require the franchisee to designate a Multi-Unit Manager, who also must complete the FMTP and any additional training.
Furthermore, the FDD states that the franchisee must employ at least one General Manager and a sufficient number of employees who have successfully completed the FMTP to ensure the restaurant operates according to the Carls system. If the restaurant does not have enough trained personnel, the franchisee has 30 days to hire and enroll the required number of personnel in the FMTP. This highlights the importance Carls places on ensuring that key personnel are adequately trained in the Carls system.
