What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to the 2024 Carls Franchise Disclosure Document, CJR grants the franchisee the right to develop and operate a franchised restaurant at a specific location. In return, the franchisee agrees to several obligations. These include operating the restaurant in strict compliance with Carls' standards and specifications, as detailed in the franchise agreement, development guide, and operations procedures manual. The franchisee must also exert their best efforts to promote the restaurant and avoid any conflicting business activities. This ensures that the franchisee is fully committed to the Carls brand and adheres to the established operational guidelines.

In addition to operational compliance, the franchisee must meet certain financial and developmental obligations. They are responsible for obtaining all necessary permits and licenses, constructing improvements to the location according to Carls' approved plans, and purchasing or leasing required fixtures, equipment, and signage. The franchisee also needs to acquire an opening inventory of approved products and materials. Furthermore, the franchisee must complete any required development training, paying tuition fees and covering all associated travel and living expenses. These requirements ensure that the franchisee establishes a fully compliant and operational Carls restaurant.

Carls also retains certain rights and controls over the franchise operation. CJR has the right to inspect the franchised location at any reasonable time, observe operations, remove samples for testing, interview personnel and customers, and inspect records. The franchisee is required to cooperate fully with these inspections and correct any deficiencies immediately. Carls can also direct the franchisee to temporarily close the restaurant if any deficiencies create an imminent health hazard. These inspection rights allow Carls to maintain quality control and ensure compliance with brand standards across all franchised locations.
