What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Carls's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, a Multi-Unit Manager must devote their full time and best efforts to supervising the operation of the franchised restaurant and other Carls restaurants operated by the franchisee in the same geographic market. The Multi-Unit Manager is prohibited from engaging in any other business or activity, directly or indirectly, that requires substantial management responsibility.

This requirement ensures that the Multi-Unit Manager is fully dedicated to overseeing the Carls restaurants and maintaining the brand's standards. This restriction is in place to prevent conflicts of interest and to ensure that the manager's focus remains solely on the success of the Carls locations they oversee.

For a prospective franchisee, this means that if they plan to hire a Multi-Unit Manager, that individual cannot be involved in any other significant business ventures. This could limit the pool of potential candidates and may require offering a competitive salary and benefits package to attract a qualified individual willing to commit fully to the role. Franchisees need to consider this restriction when structuring their management team and planning their business operations.
