Are the criteria Care Plus Medical Ucc uses for approving suppliers available to franchisees?
Care_Plus_Medical_Ucc Franchise · 2024 FDDAnswer from 2024 FDD Document
If you want to use a supplier that is not on our list of approved suppliers, you must request our approval in writing. We will grant or revoke approvals of suppliers based on criteria appropriate to the situation, which may include evaluations of the supplier's capacity, quality, financial stability, reputation, and reliability; inspections; product testing, and performance reviews. Our criteria for approving suppliers are not available to you. We permit you to contract with alternative suppliers who meet our criteria only if you request our approval in writing, and we grant approval. There is no fee for us to review or approve an alternate supplier. We will provide you with written notification of the approval or disapproval of any supplier you propose within 30 days after receipt of your request. We may grant approvals of new suppliers or revoke past approvals of suppliers on written notice to you, or by updating our Manual.

What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Care Plus Medical Ucc's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the specific criteria used to approve suppliers are not made available to prospective franchisees. While franchisees can request approval for alternative suppliers, the document states that Care Plus Medical Ucc will grant or revoke approvals based on factors such as the supplier's capacity, quality, financial stability, reputation, and reliability, as well as inspections, product testing, and performance reviews. However, the exact details of these criteria remain undisclosed.
This lack of transparency means that franchisees may find it challenging to anticipate whether a potential alternative supplier will meet Care Plus Medical Ucc's standards. While the franchisor commits to providing a written notification of approval or disapproval within 30 days of the request, the absence of clear, published criteria introduces an element of uncertainty and dependence on the franchisor's subjective evaluation.
Care Plus Medical Ucc does issue specifications and standards for applicable aspects of the franchise in their Manual and/or in written directives, and may modify these at any time. Franchisees are subject to these changes, which are generally implemented after testing at headquarters, company-owned outlets, or limited market tests. For a prospective franchisee, it is important to understand that while alternative suppliers are permitted, the approval process is controlled by Care Plus Medical Ucc, and the criteria for approval are not shared, potentially limiting the franchisee's autonomy in sourcing decisions.
