Answer from 2025 FDD Document

  • (2) Before the Opening Date you must designate, and all times thereafter retain, a General Manager who meets our qualifications to supervise the operation of your Card My Yard business.

Your Principal Owner may serve as the General Manager of your Card My Yard business, provided that he or she may not serve as the General Manager for more than one Card My Yard business at the same time.

Subject to our written consent, you may elect to designate an individual other than your Principal Owner for the position of General Manager.

Your General Manager must devote full time and best efforts to the supervision of the Card My Yard business operated by you and your Affiliates and, without our written consent, shall not engage in any other business.

You acknowledge and agree that the appointment of a General Manager will not relieve your Principal Owner of his or her supervisory responsibilities for the operation of your Card My Yard business.

You and your Principal Owner shall remain fully responsible for your General Manager's performance.

Each Card My Yard business must have a different General Manager.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Card My Yard's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee can appoint a General Manager under specific conditions with the franchisor's approval. The franchisee must designate a Principal Owner upon signing the Franchise Agreement, who typically oversees the Card My Yard business. However, Card My Yard allows for the appointment of a General Manager to supervise the business's operations, provided the General Manager meets Card My Yard's qualifications.

The Principal Owner can also serve as the General Manager, but not for more than one Card My Yard business simultaneously. If the franchisee wants to appoint someone other than the Principal Owner as General Manager, they must obtain written consent from Card My Yard. The General Manager must commit full-time efforts to supervising the Card My Yard business and cannot be involved in any other business without written consent from Card My Yard. Each Card My Yard business is required to have a different General Manager.

Even with a General Manager in place, the Principal Owner retains supervisory responsibilities and remains responsible for the General Manager's performance. The names of the Principal Owner and General Manager are listed in an exhibit to the Franchise Agreement and must be kept current. If either the Principal Owner or General Manager can no longer fulfill their role, Card My Yard must be notified promptly, and corrective action must be taken within 30 days, with interim management provided during this period. The General Manager must complete the initial online training program before the business opens and any additional training that Card My Yard may require.
