What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Card My Yard's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees generally need the franchisor's express prior written consent to relocate their Card My Yard business. However, there is an exception to this rule. If the franchisee's Franchise Location is their home, Card My Yard's consent is not required if they move to a new residence within their Protected Area.
This provision offers a significant benefit to franchisees who operate their Card My Yard business from home, as it allows them to move residences within their Protected Area without needing to seek approval from Card My Yard. This flexibility can be particularly valuable for personal reasons, such as needing more space or wanting to move to a different neighborhood, without impacting their franchise agreement.
It is important for prospective franchisees to understand the implications of this clause. While it provides freedom of movement within the Protected Area, any relocation outside of this area, or relocation of a non-home-based franchise, would still require Card My Yard's prior written consent. Franchisees should also be aware of the specific definition of "Protected Area" in their franchise agreement, as this will determine the geographic scope within which they can relocate without consent.
