What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Card My Yard FDD, franchisees are not required to purchase a point-of-sale (POS) system. However, franchisees must own or purchase and maintain a personal computer with internet access to run any required software and transmit/receive emails. The estimated cost for these computer components ranges from $0 to $1,500.
Card My Yard does not require franchisees to use any particular cash registers or computer systems, so franchisees should not incur annual costs for maintenance, updates, upgrades, or support contracts for these systems. The franchisor also states that they do not have independent access to the information generated and stored on the franchisee's computer.
However, Card My Yard may revise hardware and software specifications, including designating specific brands or software for office functions. Franchisees must update and upgrade their hardware and software as required, and install any other hardware or software that Card My Yard may require in the future. While the frequency and cost of these updates, upgrades, or enhancements are not limited, the initial investment to begin operations is relatively low due to the lack of a mandatory POS system.
