What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Card My Yard's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must comply with all applicable laws and regulations and secure all appropriate governmental approvals for their Card My Yard business. This requirement extends to zoning classifications and clearances that may be required by laws, ordinances, regulations, or restrictive covenants related to the construction and operation of the business. Franchisees are also responsible for conforming the business premises to comply with local ordinances and building codes, all at their own expense.
Before starting construction, franchisees must obtain all necessary approvals, clearances, permits, licenses, and certifications required for the lawful construction, remodeling, and operation of the Card My Yard business. They must also certify in writing to the franchisor that these have been obtained and that the required insurance coverage is in full force and effect. If architectural, engineering, design, construction, or other services are needed, the franchisee is responsible for obtaining these at their expense, and any selected architects and engineers must be approved by the franchisor before beginning work.
In practice, this means a prospective Card My Yard franchisee needs to research and understand all local, state, and federal regulations that apply to their specific business operation. This includes permits for signage, business licenses, and potentially home occupation permits if operating from a residence. Failing to secure these approvals can result in fines, legal action, or even the forced closure of the business. The franchisee bears the responsibility and cost for ensuring full compliance.
Many franchises have similar requirements, as operating a business legally is paramount. However, the specific approvals needed can vary significantly based on location and the nature of the business. Card My Yard franchisees should consult with local authorities and legal professionals to ensure they meet all requirements before commencing operations.
