What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Caption By Hyatt Franchise Disclosure Document, the General Manager University (GMU) program does not include any hours of on-the-job training. The GMU program is designed to provide an overview of Hyatt's brand requirements and the tools available to support these requirements.
The GMU program consists of self-paced eLearning, virtual instructor-led training, in-person training, learning assessments, and a final virtual presentation to the leadership team. The general manager must complete GMU at least six months before the hotel's opening date, or within six months of being hired or promoted. The self-paced eLearning and virtual components must be completed at least three months before the hotel's opening date, or within three months of being hired or promoted. The in-person training component is a three-day workshop at the corporate headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, or at a Hyatt hotel location.
Prospective Caption By Hyatt franchisees should note that while the GMU program focuses on classroom and virtual training, on-the-job training for other personnel is available. This includes department training, guest experiences training, guest loyalty training, and related position systems training. These training programs include both classroom and on-the-job training hours, which vary depending on the position.
