What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Canopy Lawn Care's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Canopy Lawn Care and its affiliates have the right to collect rebates and other forms of consideration from approved third-party suppliers based on a franchisee's purchases of required items. Canopy Lawn Care is entitled to retain these rebates and considerations for their own use and account. This means that while franchisees are required to purchase certain items from approved suppliers, any financial incentives or benefits the suppliers offer based on the volume of purchases will go to Canopy Lawn Care, not the franchisee.
This arrangement is common in franchising, where franchisors negotiate bulk discounts or rebates with suppliers due to the collective purchasing power of the franchise network. These negotiated benefits are then retained by the franchisor as a source of revenue. For a prospective Canopy Lawn Care franchisee, this means that the cost of required items may not directly reflect any rebates or discounts the franchisor receives. The franchisee should focus on the overall cost-effectiveness and profitability of the franchise, considering the prices of required items and the potential revenue they can generate.
Furthermore, Canopy Lawn Care and its affiliates may also generate revenue or other consideration from a franchisee's purchases of required items directly from Canopy Lawn Care or its affiliates. The names and addresses of Canopy Lawn Care's designated and approved suppliers are maintained in the manual, and Canopy Lawn Care retains the right to approve all required items used in connection with the franchisee's business. This ensures that Canopy Lawn Care maintains control over the quality and consistency of products and services offered under the Canopy Lawn Care brand, while also creating potential revenue streams for the franchisor through supplier rebates and direct sales to franchisees.
