What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Canopy Lawn Care FDD, as a lessee, Canopy Lawn Care agrees to comply with all applicable guidance and professional standards issued by governmental and quasi-governmental agencies regarding autonomous vehicles and automated driving systems. This includes, but is not limited to, the federal guidance for automated vehicles published by the Department of Transportation, the Federal Automated Vehicle Policy issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This requirement ensures that Canopy Lawn Care stays aligned with the latest safety and regulatory standards for autonomous vehicles, which are rapidly evolving. For a prospective franchisee, this means they must be prepared to continuously update their knowledge and practices to comply with these guidelines. This compliance extends to all parts, components, and products related to these autonomous systems.

Furthermore, Canopy Lawn Care must also ensure that its drivers comply with all laws, statutes, rules, regulations, and ordinances, including those specifically governing autonomous vehicles and automated driving systems at the federal, state, and local levels. This places an additional layer of responsibility on the franchisee to train and monitor their drivers to adhere to these standards, ensuring safe and legal operation of the vehicles. This also includes adhering to the provisions of all insurance policies covering the vehicles.

In practical terms, this means franchisees need to invest in ongoing training and resources to stay informed about changes in autonomous vehicle regulations. They should also maintain meticulous records of compliance and be prepared for inspections or audits to verify adherence to these standards. Failure to comply could result in fines, penalties, or legal liabilities, highlighting the importance of prioritizing regulatory compliance in this area.
