What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Canopy Lawn Care's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, fees paid directly to Canopy Lawn Care or its affiliates are generally non-refundable. The FDD explicitly states that all fees paid to Canopy Lawn Care or its affiliates are non-refundable under any circumstances once paid. This means that once a franchisee has paid a fee to the company, they cannot get that money back, regardless of the situation.

However, there is an exception regarding the transfer fee. If a Canopy Lawn Care franchisee seeks to transfer their franchise to a new owner, a transfer fee is required. The amount depends on whether the franchisee or Canopy Lawn Care finds the buyer. If the transfer does not occur or Canopy Lawn Care does not approve the transfer, the transfer fee will be refunded, less any expenses Canopy Lawn Care incurred during the review process.

It is important to note that fees paid to third-party vendors or suppliers, as opposed to Canopy Lawn Care or its affiliates, may or may not be refundable. The refundability of these fees depends on the specific policies of those vendors and suppliers. This is a common practice in franchising, as franchisors typically do not control the refund policies of independent vendors. Franchisees should clarify the refund policies of third-party vendors before engaging their services.

Prospective Canopy Lawn Care franchisees should carefully consider the non-refundable nature of fees paid to the company and its affiliates. They should also inquire about the specific refund policies of any third-party vendors they will be required to use. Understanding these policies is crucial for managing financial risks and making informed decisions about the franchise investment.
