Can the Canine Dimensions Franchise Disclosure Document or Agreement reduce a franchisee's rights under Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 80C in Minnesota?

According to Canine Dimensions's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchise agreement cannot reduce a franchisee's rights under Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 80C. An addendum to the disclosure document specifically states that nothing in the Franchise Disclosure Document or Agreement can abrogate or reduce any rights provided for in Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 80C, or the rights to any procedure, forum, or remedies provided by Minnesota law. This addendum applies to all Canine Dimensions franchises offered and sold in Minnesota.

Furthermore, any provision in the Franchise Agreement that requires a franchisee to assent to a release, assignment, novation, or waiver that would relieve any person from liability imposed by Minnesota Statutes, Sections 80C.01 to 80C.22 is void to the extent that such contractual provision violates the law. This ensures that franchisees retain their statutory rights and protections under Minnesota law.

Additionally, the Canine Dimensions Franchise Agreement will be modified to comply with specific aspects of Minnesota law regarding termination and non-renewal. Franchisees must be given 90 days' notice of termination (with 60 days to cure) and 180 days' notice for non-renewal, except in certain specified cases. Consent to the transfer of the franchise will also not be unreasonably withheld, in accordance with Minnesota Statute Section 80C.14, Subds. 3, 4, and 5. These stipulations provide franchisees with additional security and rights regarding the continuation and transfer of their franchise.
