What constitutes an 'Approved Location' for a Canine Dimensions franchise?

.
You will have the right to establish your franchised business at an "Approved Location," which must be within your Protected Territory. The Approved Location will be your home. The Approved Location must be approved by us.
We have the right to terminate our grant, or reduce the size, of your Protected Territory if you default under the Franchise Agreement for, among other things, failing to maintain our standards or failure to pay royalty and other fees when they become due. Otherwise, continuation of your territorial exclusivity does not depend on your achieving a certain sales volume, market penetration, or other contingency, and there are no other circumstances when your Protected Territory may be altered.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Canine Dimensions's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, an 'Approved Location' is defined as a location within the franchisee's Protected Territory that has been approved by Canine Dimensions. The FDD specifies that the Approved Location will be the franchisee's home. This means that franchisees are expected to operate the Canine Dimensions business from their residence, subject to the franchisor's approval.
This home-based operation model has several implications for prospective franchisees. It can significantly reduce overhead costs, as there is no need to lease commercial space. However, it also means that the franchisee's home must meet Canine Dimensions's standards for conducting business, which could involve modifications or specific requirements to ensure a professional environment. Furthermore, if a franchisee chooses to move their home outside of their Protected Territory, Canine Dimensions may require them to obtain rented space within the Protected Territory to continue operating the franchise.
The requirement for franchisor approval of the home as the business location is a standard practice in home-based franchise systems. This allows Canine Dimensions to ensure that the location is suitable for the business and maintains a consistent brand image. Franchisees should clarify with Canine Dimensions the specific criteria for home approval, including any necessary permits, zoning regulations, or physical requirements, to avoid potential issues during the setup phase. Understanding these requirements upfront is crucial for a smooth and compliant business operation.
It is also important to note that while the franchisee operates from an approved location within their protected territory, they may only provide services to customers and prospective customers who live in their Protected Territory. Franchisees are restricted from engaging in promotional activities or selling any products or services through the internet or other alternative distribution channels directed to customers outside of their Protected Territory.
