What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Byrider Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are not required to conduct on-premises supervision or personally participate in the direct operation of the business. However, Byrider mandates that the business must always be under the direct, on-location supervision of a trained and competent employee, designated as the Designated Manager.
This Designated Manager is a crucial role, as they are required to attend and successfully complete Byrider's Initial Training Program at least 14 days before the store opens. This requirement applies not only to the initial Designated Manager but also to any replacements. Byrider offers this initial training program without charge for the Designated Manager and up to three additional employees; however, there is a nonrefundable fee of $2,500 for each additional employee attending the Initial Training Program. The franchisee is responsible for covering all travel and living expenses for employees during training.
While the franchisee is not obligated to be on-site, the emphasis on a Designated Manager ensures that Byrider maintains a consistent standard of operation and customer service. Furthermore, if the franchisee is a corporation or limited liability company taxed as a corporation, the owners must personally guarantee the obligations under the Franchise Agreement and agree to be personally bound by any breach of the agreement. This personal guaranty underscores the importance of adhering to Byrider's operational standards, even if the franchisee delegates day-to-day management to a Designated Manager.
