What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Burros Fries's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial training program is mandatory for the franchisee (or one of the owners if the franchisee is a business entity) and at least one other designated manager. Burros Fries requires franchisees to have a minimum of one general manager, which can be the franchisee themselves or one of the owners. The initial training program is held at Burros Fries's corporate headquarters, unless the headquarters are moved.

The Burros Fries training program is included in the initial franchise fee, but the franchisee is responsible for covering all associated costs, such as travel and accommodation. Additionally, all employees, including the franchisee or managing entity, the manager, and all other staff, must obtain a food handler certification in their home state. This certification involves food handling and safety training, which can be completed in a classroom or, in some states, online.

If a proposed manager fails to complete the training program satisfactorily, Burros Fries will notify the franchisee, who can then select a substitute manager for enrollment. Burros Fries retains the right to terminate the Franchise Agreement if the franchisee (or an owner, if the franchisee is an entity) or any manager is deemed unqualified to manage the business. The criteria for qualification include business experience, personality suitability for guest service, and possession of the necessary licenses and permits.

Burros Fries also offers additional training to new managers after the initial training program is completed by the franchisee, owner, or manager. This additional training may require a fee of up to $300 per half-day per person, with the trainee responsible for all related costs like travel and lodging. Furthermore, Burros Fries has the right to require the franchisee (and any owner, if the franchisee is an entity) and any other managers to complete refresher training programs during the term of the Franchise Agreement, potentially at an additional cost.
