What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Burneys Sweets More's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial franchise fee of $20,000 does include training. This training covers the franchisee (or a principal if the franchisee is a corporation) and their manager at the Burneys Sweets More training facility. The initial fee also covers one terminal for the approved point-of-sale system. This fee is payable in a lump sum when the franchise agreement is signed and is non-refundable.
Burneys Sweets More requires the franchisee (or a principal) to attend initial training. If an Operations Manager is approved for the shop, they and another manager must complete the training program, unless Burneys Sweets More waives this requirement. The training program is conducted at the Elizabethtown, North Carolina location and generally lasts one week. The franchisee or principal, and the Operations Manager if applicable, must complete the training program to Burneys Sweets More's satisfaction before being authorized to open the shop.
If the franchisee buys the franchise directly from Burneys Sweets More, the initial franchise fee includes the cost of initial training for up to two people before opening. However, the franchisee is responsible for all indirect training costs, such as employee salaries, travel, lodging, meals, and other living expenses. The training is provided by Michael or Gina Burney, who each have over 8 years of experience operating a Burneys Sweets More shop.
