What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Burger King's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to purchase food, beverages, supplies, paper products, and packaging from sources approved by Burger King. This requirement is in place to ensure the quality, safety, and consistency of goods and services provided by Burger King restaurants, and to protect the brand's image.
Burger King establishes standards and specifications for most goods and services used in the development, improvement, and operation of restaurants. These standards extend to both direct and indirect sources of supply. Franchisees must operate their restaurants in accordance with these standards and specifications. This includes ensuring that items such as fixtures, signage, décor, food, beverages, insurance, and equipment meet Burger King's requirements and are typically obtained from approved suppliers or distributors.
RSI, a not-for-profit, independent purchasing cooperative, acts as the purchasing agent for most equipment, supplies, food, paper, uniforms, and other products and services used by Burger King restaurants. All U.S. restaurant operators, including franchisees, can participate in the cooperative as members of RSI. The decisions of the cooperative are made by RSI's Board of Directors, which includes Burger King franchisees. While Burger King does not provide special benefits based solely on the use of approved suppliers, compliance with purchasing standards is considered when determining whether to renew or grant additional franchises.
