What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Buildingstars' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, any goodwill that arises from a franchisee's use of the Buildingstars marks benefits Buildingstars and its affiliates. This means that as a Buildingstars franchisee builds a positive reputation and brand recognition in their local market through the use of the Buildingstars name and trademarks, the value generated accrues to the benefit of the franchisor, Buildingstars, and its affiliated entities, rather than the individual franchisee.
This arrangement is typical in franchising, as the brand and its associated marks are the intellectual property of the franchisor. The franchisee is essentially licensing the use of these marks for a specific period and within certain parameters. The FDD also states that Buildingstars has the right to operate businesses under the Buildingstars marks on any terms and conditions it deems fit.
For a prospective Buildingstars franchisee, this highlights the importance of understanding that while they contribute to building brand equity through their efforts, the primary beneficiary of that equity is Buildingstars. This is a standard element of the franchise business model, where the franchisor maintains control over the brand and its reputation, and the franchisee operates under the established brand guidelines.
