What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Buff City Soap's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee cannot begin site preparation or construction until they receive written notification from Buff City Soap that the franchisor approves the franchisee's submitted plans.

Prior to submitting plans, the franchisee is responsible for obtaining all necessary zoning and regulatory approvals, permits, licenses, and certifications required for the lawful construction or remodeling and operation of the Makery. The franchisee must also provide Buff City Soap with a certificate of insurance. Buff City Soap will provide prototypical plans and specifications for a Buff City Soap makery, and the franchisee is responsible for preparing architectural, engineering, and design plans that comply with all applicable ordinances, building codes, permit requirements, and lease restrictions.

The franchisee must obtain services from registered architects, registered engineers, and professional and licensed contractors that meet Buff City Soap's standards. If the franchisee desires to use an architect, engineer, or contractor not already approved by Buff City Soap, they must submit information and documentation regarding their training, experience, and financial responsibility. The franchisee must also provide copies of all proposed contracts and any other information requested by Buff City Soap. The franchisee is responsible for Buff City Soap's costs and expenses in connection with the review of any such architect, engineer, or contractor. Construction must commence at least 120 days before the Opening Date and be completed no later than 30 days before the Opening Date.
