What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Budget's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the Owning City must provide proof of hold for a Non-Owned Vehicle using either email documentation or Wizard documentation. For locations that do not use Wizard, they should request that the vehicle's status be updated to a Hold status within Wizard.
This documentation requirement is important because if a Non-Owned Vehicle is rented within seven business days after being placed on hold for pick-up, the Renting City is liable to pay the Owning City 100% of the rental revenue. Additionally, the Renting City must cover all costs associated with the Owning City's attempted retrieval of the vehicle, including fuel, transfer fees, and shuttler wages. Having proper documentation ensures that the Owning City can substantiate its claim for these costs.
By requiring documentation, Budget aims to prevent disputes and ensure fair compensation to the Owning City when a vehicle is rented out of turn. This policy encourages clear communication and record-keeping between franchise locations, which is essential for maintaining smooth operations within the Budget system. Franchisees should ensure they adhere to these documentation procedures to avoid potential financial penalties and maintain good standing with other Budget locations.
