What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Brueggers Bagels' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, if the licensor introduces a new technology suite that applies to licensed bakeries generally, the licensee must promptly install any new equipment, upgrades, additions, changes, modifications, substitutions and/or replacements of hardware, software, data connectivity, and electrical power as may be reasonably necessary to implement the new technology suite. This is subject to any restrictions imposed by the Facility.

This requirement ensures that all Brueggers Bagels locations operate with the most up-to-date technology, maintaining brand consistency and potentially improving efficiency. The licensee bears the cost of these updates, which can be a significant financial consideration. It is important to note that the obligation to adopt new technology is subject to any restrictions imposed by the Facility, which suggests that the specific location of the bakery may influence the extent to which these changes are mandatory.

For a prospective franchisee, this means being prepared for ongoing investments in technology. Before signing the agreement, it would be prudent to inquire about the typical frequency and cost of technology updates to better understand the financial implications. Additionally, understanding the types of restrictions the Facility might impose can help in assessing the flexibility and potential costs associated with technology upgrades.
