Who must actively manage the Brueggers Bagels Bakery at all times?

Brueggers_Bagels Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

The Bakery must at all times be under the active full-time management of you, your Operating Partner, Store Manager, or additional managers who have passed operations and proficiency tests and successfully completed the applicable training program to graduate from the program as a "Certified Manager." At your option, we will also provide our training program for additional Certified Managers or shift supervisors for a fee. All training will take place at our support center in Denver, Colorado or a designated training store as we may determine. The Store Manager must have at least three years of experience working in a management capacity in a quick service restaurant or fast casual restaurant, and the Store Manager may serve as the Operating Partner regardless of the equity interest the Store Manager holds in the franchisee entity.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Brueggers Bagels' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the Bakery must always be under active, full-time management. This can be fulfilled by you (the franchisee), your Operating Partner, the Store Manager, or additional managers. To qualify, these additional managers must have passed operations and proficiency tests and successfully completed the applicable training program to graduate as a "Certified Manager."

For franchisees operating as a corporation, partnership, limited liability company, or limited liability partnership, they must designate an "Operating Partner." This individual needs to have an ownership interest, be approved by Brueggers Bagels, and supervise the Bakery's operation. The Operating Partner must own or have the right to control at least 10% of the franchisee's equity, have the authority to make operational decisions for the Bakery, and complete the Brueggers Bagels training program.

Before opening the Bakery, either you or your Operating Partner, along with one full-time general manager (Store Manager) or additional manager, must attend and successfully complete the initial training program. The Store Manager should possess at least three years of management experience in a quick-service or fast-casual restaurant. Notably, the Store Manager can also serve as the Operating Partner, regardless of their equity interest in the franchisee entity.

If the franchisee, Operating Partner, or any Certified Manager stops actively managing or working at the Bakery, a qualified replacement must be trained within 30 days. This replacement must be reasonably acceptable to Brueggers Bagels and must complete the initial training program as soon as practical. Brueggers Bagels may also require Certified Managers to attend refresher courses or seminars periodically.
