What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Browns Chicken's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchisee is solely responsible for protecting the POS and computer systems from viruses, computer hackers, and other computer-related and technology-related problems. Browns Chicken requires franchisees to obtain and record all sales on a POS System and credit card processing from a vendor they approve, which is currently Square, Inc. The POS System and credit card transactions are processed through an iPad and cash register meeting the Square configuration.
Browns Chicken incurs the costs of the Square equipment and furnishes it to the franchisee for no charge. However, the franchisee must pay Browns Chicken a monthly processing fee, estimated at between $50 and $200 per month, which depends on the actual volume of transactions processed on the Square system. Square provides ongoing support, which is included in the monthly processing fee.
Given the franchisee's responsibility for security, it is crucial to implement robust cybersecurity measures. This includes installing and regularly updating anti-virus software, using strong and unique passwords, and educating employees about phishing and other cyber threats. Franchisees should also consider investing in cybersecurity insurance to mitigate potential financial losses from data breaches or cyberattacks. Browns Chicken reserves the right to access information and data pertaining to the franchisee's store produced by and/or stored on the computer system, including data from Third-Party Delivery Service companies.
