What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Browns Chicken's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are not required to upgrade or update their POS system. Browns Chicken uses Square, Inc. as their approved vendor for the POS system and credit card processing. The POS system operates through an iPad and cash register meeting the Square configuration. Browns Chicken incurs the costs of the Square equipment and furnishes it to the franchisee for no charge.
The franchisee is responsible for paying Browns Chicken a monthly processing fee, estimated between $50 and $200, which covers time card and employee permissions for online ordering. The actual amount depends on the volume of transactions processed through the Square system. Square provides ongoing support as part of this monthly fee.
While Browns Chicken does not mandate upgrades or updates, franchisees are responsible for protecting their POS and computer systems from viruses, hackers, and other technology-related issues. Franchisees must also use Square for credit card processing, with fees based on the dollar volume of credit card purchases.
