What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Browns Chicken Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are explicitly prohibited from creating their own gift card designs. Browns Chicken requires franchisees to offer only the official gift cards that Browns Chicken has designated and approved in writing. These official gift cards may be amended from time to time, and franchisees must comply with any policies regarding changes to the form and use of gift cards, including transition periods for phasing in modifications.
This restriction ensures brand consistency and standardization across all Browns Chicken locations. By mandating the use of only approved gift cards, Browns Chicken maintains control over its brand image and prevents unauthorized or potentially damaging representations of the brand through independently designed gift cards. This is a common practice in franchising, where maintaining a uniform brand identity is crucial.
For a prospective Browns Chicken franchisee, this means they must adhere strictly to the gift card designs and policies set forth by Browns Chicken. They cannot introduce their own creative variations or promotions using custom gift cards. This requirement extends to all forms of gift cards, meaning franchisees cannot offer any alternative gift card options beyond the official ones. Franchisees are also responsible for obtaining and maintaining the necessary equipment and software to process the authorized gift cards.
Failure to comply with these gift card policies could result in a breach of the franchise agreement and potential penalties. Therefore, it is essential for franchisees to stay informed about any updates or changes to the official gift card program and to ensure their systems are compatible with the approved gift card processing methods.
