According to Boulder Designs' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the estimated cost of purchasing computer hardware is $650 per unit. Boulder Designs requires franchisees to purchase specific computer systems, equipment, and software detailed in their manuals for use in their franchised business. These required items must be acquired, installed, and maintained within 30 days of opening the franchise.
The computer system and/or POS (Point of Sale) system must be dedicated solely to the operation of the Boulder Designs business and not used for any other purpose. In addition to the initial hardware cost, franchisees must also purchase and install basic financial recordkeeping software, such as QuickBooks, and maintain an approved email account.
Boulder Designs has a direct agreement with Intuit, the manufacturer of QuickBooks, allowing franchisees to purchase it through a specially prepared Intuit website. The pricing for QuickBooks is set by Intuit and is currently $40 per month for the online version, $139.96 for a 1-user QuickBooks Pro, or $384.96 for a 3-user license. A learning CD is also available for $29.97 through Boulder Designs' Intuit website. Franchisees are responsible for all subsequent upgrades and updates to the system and must also acquire and maintain anti-virus and anti-spyware software as designated by Boulder Designs.
