What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Bojangles' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the Designated Operator's primary responsibility is the full-time supervision and conduct of the franchised Bojangles business, as well as any other Bojangles restaurants operated by the franchisee.
To qualify for this role, the Designated Operator must be approved by Bojangles and must attend and successfully complete the initial training program offered by Bojangles. They are also required to execute a Confidentiality Agreement. This ensures that the operator is well-trained, understands the operational standards, and is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of proprietary information.
The franchisee must designate an individual to serve as the Designated Operator at least six months before the restaurant opens. If the Designated Operator cannot fulfill their obligations or no longer qualifies, the franchisee must promptly appoint a replacement who meets the same conditions and qualifications, including completing the initial training program within 180 days of appointment. This requirement ensures continuous, qualified management of the Bojangles franchise.
Bojangles also stipulates that the Managing Owner can also serve as the Designated Operator, provided they meet the criteria for both positions independently. This offers some flexibility in management structure, allowing a single individual to hold both roles if they are qualified and approved by Bojangles.
