What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Bojangles's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee may request a written extension of up to six months for the site approval, construction commencement, or opening deadline for a restaurant. To do so, the franchisee must pay Bojangles a lump-sum extension fee of $2,500. This fee must be received by Bojangles at least 14 calendar days before the original deadline date.
This extension fee covers administrative costs Bojangles incurs when granting franchisees more time to meet their obligations. It is a one-time, non-refundable fee. Franchisees should carefully consider their timelines and potential delays to avoid incurring this additional cost.
Bojangles assumes franchisees will not require any extensions on the opening timeline for a Restaurant when calculating the minimum investment amount in Item 7 of the FDD. This suggests that while extensions are possible, they are not factored into the initial financial projections and should be considered an exception rather than the rule. Franchisees should aim to adhere to the original schedule to avoid additional fees and potential complications.
It is important to note that the extension fee is separate from other fees associated with opening a Bojangles franchise, such as the development fee and franchise fee. Franchisees should budget accordingly and factor in the possibility of needing an extension, especially if they anticipate challenges with site approval, construction, or meeting the opening deadline.
