What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Bojangles's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are responsible for the expenses associated with promotional materials for local advertising. Bojangles offers advice and assistance in local advertising but does not cover the costs of the promotional materials themselves. This means that franchisees must budget for these expenses as part of their local marketing efforts.
In addition to covering the cost of promotional materials, Bojangles franchisees must spend at least 3% of their restaurant's gross sales on local and regional media advertising. This advertising can include various forms of media, such as radio, television, magazines, newspapers, billboards, digital and social media, and direct mail. However, certain costs are excluded from this 3% requirement, including advertising production, marketing materials production, food promotion costs, point-of-purchase materials, telephone book advertising, stationery, and restaurant site location signs.
Bojangles also requires franchisees to pay $153 each month per restaurant to approved digital channel vendors. These vendors manage the mobile application and website, collect customer data, and customize advertising materials for the franchisee's local area. This monthly fee counts toward the 3% gross sales requirement for local marketing. Franchisees operating before May 1, 1989, may have different contractual obligations and reduced advertising requirements.
All advertising materials used by the franchisee must be approved in writing by Bojangles. This ensures that all advertising aligns with the brand's standards and requirements. Franchisees must submit samples of their advertising and promotional plans to Bojangles for approval before use. This requirement allows Bojangles to maintain control over its brand image and ensure consistency across all franchise locations.
