What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Body20's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Body20 can require franchisees to use specific architects and contractors for studio renovations. Specifically, franchisees must have plans prepared according to Body20's System Standards and, if Body20 requires, the franchisee must use architects and contractors Body20 approves. The franchisee must submit those plans to Body20 for approval within 60 days after receiving written notice from Body20.
This requirement is part of the franchisee's obligation to refurbish and renovate the studio at their own expense, typically no more than once every five years, to conform to Body20's current image and design. These renovations may involve remodeling, redecoration, modifications to existing improvements, and updating or replacing operating assets.
The FDD emphasizes that these renovations could involve significant structural changes and substantial expenditures for new operating assets. The franchisee is responsible for covering all required capital expenditures, even if they cannot be amortized over the remaining term of the franchise agreement. This ensures that all Body20 studios maintain a consistent brand image and meet the franchisor's standards.
