What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Body20's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Body20 retains the right to require franchisees to obtain prior written approval of any project managers, architects, engineers, or designers they intend to use before engaging them for the studio's construction. This requirement ensures that the professionals involved in adapting Body20's standard plans and specifications for the franchisee's specific site meet Body20's standards.
Body20 also requires franchisees to engage designers, architects, and engineers to adapt Body20's standard prototype plans and specifications for the exterior and interior design and layout of the studio. These adaptations must align with Body20's requirements for fixtures, furnishings, signs, trade dress, and equipment. The architectural drawings and specifications, collectively referred to as "Plans," must be reviewed and approved by Body20 before submission for permitting. After the final Plans are accepted, franchisees cannot modify them without Body20's prior written consent.
Furthermore, Body20 mandates that franchisees provide written notice of their proposed general contractor, ensuring the contractor is duly licensed and adequately insured in the relevant jurisdiction. Construction cannot commence until Body20 provides written approval of both the Plans and the chosen general contractor. Body20 may also require franchisees to use only pre-approved general contractors, provided that at least one pre-approved contractor is available in the franchisee's site selection area. These measures allow Body20 to maintain consistency and quality across all franchised locations, protecting the brand's image and operational standards.
These stipulations are typical in franchising, where franchisors seek to maintain brand consistency and quality control. By requiring approval of key personnel and plans, Body20 aims to ensure that each studio meets its standards for design, functionality, and compliance with local regulations. This oversight helps to protect the brand's reputation and ensures a consistent experience for customers across all locations.
