What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Body20's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial term of the license begins on the Effective Date, which is specified in Appendix A of the Franchise Agreement. However, the initial term ends ten years from the date that the Body20 studio opens for business, also known as the "Opening Date." The agreement can be terminated sooner if certain conditions are met as outlined in other sections of the agreement.
For a prospective Body20 franchisee, this means the start of the 10-year franchise term is not tied to the date the agreement is signed. Instead, it's linked to when the studio actually begins operations. This is a notable distinction because there may be a significant time gap between signing the agreement and opening the studio, due to factors like site selection, build-out, and training. This also means that the franchisee will not be paying franchise fees until the studio opens.
Furthermore, the Body20 franchise agreement provides an opportunity for renewal. If the franchisee is not in default, has substantially complied with the agreement, has made all payments, and meets specific conditions, they can obtain two additional five-year successor terms. This offers a potential for a long-term business operation, provided the franchisee adheres to the terms and conditions set forth by Body20.
