What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Body20's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, for two years after a franchisee's association with Body20 ends for any reason, they are restricted from operating a Competitive Business within a 10-mile radius of their former Body20 studio or any other Body20 studio that is operating or under development at the time their association with Body20 ended. This restriction mirrors the restrictions during the term of the franchise agreement, but with a geographic limitation.
A "Competitive Business" includes any gymnasium, studio, athletic or fitness center, health club, exercise, aerobics facility, or similar fitness or exercise facility or business. It also encompasses any business that offers fitness training or products, services, or classes or training sessions similar to those offered by a Body20 studio, as well as any entity that grants franchises or licenses for these types of businesses.
This non-compete clause means that a former Body20 franchisee cannot immediately open a competing fitness studio or similar business within the specified radius. This is designed to protect Body20's market share and confidential business information. Franchisees should carefully consider this restriction, as it could limit their business opportunities for two years after leaving the Body20 franchise system. It is a fairly standard non-compete clause in franchising, but the specific radius and duration can vary across different franchise systems.
