Under what circumstances might the initial training program be waived for a Black Bear Diner franchisee?
Black_Bear_Diner Franchise · 2025 FDDAnswer from 2025 FDD Document
We conduct an initial training program which you and your general manager, if applicable, and assistant manager(s) must attend and complete to our satisfaction prior to beginning operation of the Franchised Restaurant. Under certain circumstances, for example, you are currently a multiunit operator or your personnel have been previously trained by us, and you receive our preapproval then we may waive the initial training program or certain aspects of it.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Black Bear Diner's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial training program, or certain parts of it, may be waived under specific conditions. This waiver is not automatic but requires pre-approval from Black Bear Diner.
Specifically, the initial training program may be waived if the franchisee is already a multi-unit operator. This suggests that individuals with experience managing multiple business locations may be deemed to have sufficient business acumen to forgo the standard training. Alternatively, the training may be waived if the franchisee's personnel have been previously trained by Black Bear Diner. This implies that if the franchisee's staff members have already undergone the company's training, the franchisee might not need to complete the full initial program.
It is important to note that the decision to waive the training program or any part of it is at Black Bear Diner's discretion and requires their pre-approval. A prospective franchisee should discuss their qualifications and experience with Black Bear Diner to determine if they are eligible for a training waiver.
