What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Black Bear Diner's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to use a specific computer system. This system is for implementing and utilizing a computerized retail management and point of sale (POS) system. The POS system includes hardware and software to track daily sales reports, inventory, customer tracking, and vendor purchase orders. As part of the POS system, franchisees must use front-of-house terminals to transmit customer orders to a five-screen kitchen display system.
The front-of-house setup requires two cashier stations, each equipped with countertop credit card chip reader terminals that have EMV chip payment capability. Black Bear Diner retains the right to modify the computer system's requirements.
For a prospective franchisee, this means they must invest in and maintain the specific computer system that Black Bear Diner mandates. This ensures uniformity across all franchise locations and allows for efficient tracking of sales, inventory, and customer data. The requirement for EMV chip payment capability is also important for security and compliance with current payment processing standards. The franchisee should budget for the initial cost of the system, as well as ongoing maintenance and potential upgrades.
