What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Black Bear Diner Franchise Disclosure Document, the POS system is a crucial part of the computerized retail management system. It includes hardware and software designed to track daily sales reports, inventory, customer tracking, and vendor purchase orders. The POS system also uses front-of-house terminals to transmit customer orders to a five-screen kitchen display system, which digitally displays orders in the kitchen.

Specifically, Black Bear Diner requires two cashier stations with countertop credit card chip reader terminals that have EMV chip payment capability as part of the front-of-house hardware and software. This ensures that franchisees can process payments securely and efficiently. The FDD also states that Black Bear Diner reserves the right to modify the vendor or model of the POS system in the future.

For a prospective franchisee, this means they must invest in the specific POS system that Black Bear Diner mandates. While the franchisor can change the system, they do not anticipate materially changing the functionality. It is important for potential franchisees to factor in the costs associated with these systems when evaluating the overall investment required to start a Black Bear Diner franchise.
