Answer from 2025 FDD Document

Your Technology Systems (including hardware, software, equipment, software applications, mobile apps and similar items) must meet our standards and specifications. Certain Technology System components must be purchased from approved or designated suppliers. Other components may be purchased from any supplier of your choosing. We may require you to purchase certain services relating to the establishment, use, maintenance, monitoring, security or improvement of Technology Systems from approved or designated suppliers. You must purchase a computer system that meets our standards and specifications. You must purchase your preconfigured laptop exclusively from us. We do not currently restrict the suppliers from whom you purchase or license the other equipment and software components.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Bigfoot Forestry's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to purchase their preconfigured laptop exclusively from the company. While the franchisee must purchase a computer system that meets Bigfoot Forestry's standards and specifications, the FDD specifies that the preconfigured laptop must be purchased directly from Bigfoot Forestry. The document does not currently restrict the suppliers from whom franchisees purchase or license other equipment and software components for their technology systems.

This requirement means that a prospective Bigfoot Forestry franchisee will not be able to shop around for the best price on a preconfigured laptop. They must purchase it directly from the franchisor, potentially at a higher cost than if they were able to source it independently. This is a common practice in franchising, where franchisors often mandate specific suppliers to maintain quality control and brand consistency.

It is important to note that while the franchisee is restricted to purchasing the preconfigured laptop from Bigfoot Forestry, they may have more flexibility in sourcing other technology system components. However, Bigfoot Forestry retains the right to designate approved or required suppliers for these other components in the future. Franchisees should stay informed about any changes to the approved supplier list, as these changes could impact their operating costs and sourcing options.

Bigfoot Forestry also benefits from this arrangement, as they can generate revenue from the sale of preconfigured laptops to franchisees. This revenue stream is in addition to the franchise fees and royalties that franchisees pay. Franchisees should consider the cost of the preconfigured laptop and any other required purchases from the franchisor when evaluating the overall investment required to start a Bigfoot Forestry franchise.
