Some states require that health/fitness facilities have a staff person available during all hours of operation that is certified in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other specialized medical training. Some state or local laws may also require that health/fitness facilities have an automated external defibrillator and/or other first aid equipment on the premises.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Bft's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, some states mandate that health/fitness facilities have staff certified in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other specialized medical training during all operational hours. Additionally, certain state or local laws may require automated external defibrillators and/or other first aid equipment on the premises.
This means that as a Bft franchisee, you must be aware of and comply with the specific regulations in your state and local area regarding CPR certification and first aid equipment. These regulations are not uniform across all jurisdictions, so it is your responsibility to ensure your studio meets the minimum requirements. Failure to comply with these regulations could result in fines, penalties, or even the closure of your Bft studio.
Beyond CPR and first aid, Bft requires that each studio has at least one individual capable and authorized to provide fitness instruction at all times. This Authorized Instructor must attend and complete Bft's Pre-Opening Instructor Training and the Fundamentals Training Program. While this training focuses on delivering Bft's approved services according to system standards, it may not cover the specific medical certifications required by local laws. Therefore, franchisees need to proactively address local requirements for medical certifications in addition to the standard Bft training.
Prospective Bft franchisees should contact the franchisor to understand what is typically required in different states and consult with local authorities to confirm the specific requirements for their studio's location. This due diligence will help ensure compliance and the safety of Bft members.
