What is the Pre-Opening Instructor Training for Bft?

Bft Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

  • C. Pre-Opening Instructor Training for Initial and Subsequent Instructors. Every instructor that provides any of the Approved Services at Franchisee's Studio must, prior to providing such instruction, complete the Pre-Opening Instructor Training and related testing, as described in the Learning Management System. The Pre-Opening Instructor Training will typically be provided (a) virtually, (b) on-site at a BFT Studio that is owned by another franchisee, or (c) at the Studio of one of Franchisor's affiliates; however, at least a portion of the Pre-Opening Instructor Training designed to provide individuals with guidelines and information on how to provide the Approved Services in accordance with Franchisor's current System Standards will be held virtually (the "Fundamentals Training Program"). In the event that an instructor completes the Pre-Opening Instructor Training on-site at a BFT Studio, Franchisor reserves the right to review the instructor's testing results before approving that individual to provide Approved Services from the Studio. Franchisor will assess a Training Fee for each trainee for participation in the Pre-Opening Instructor Training, and Franchisee will cover the related costs and expenses associated with all personnel attending and completing the Pre-Opening Instructor Training, including the Fundamentals Training Program. An instructor that has completed the Pre-Opening Instructor Training in its entirety and is authorized to provide Approved Services at Franchisee's Studio is considered an "Authorized Instructor."

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Bft's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, every instructor providing approved services at a Bft studio must complete the Pre-Opening Instructor Training and related testing, as detailed in the Learning Management System, before they start instructing. This training typically occurs virtually, at another franchisee's Bft studio, or at an affiliate's studio. A portion of this training, called the Fundamentals Training Program, is always virtual and provides guidelines on delivering approved services according to Bft's System Standards.

Bft franchisees are responsible for covering the costs and expenses for their personnel to attend and complete this training, including the Fundamentals Training Program. Once an instructor completes the Pre-Opening Instructor Training and is authorized to provide approved services, they are considered an "Authorized Instructor." The Fundamentals Training Program is provided virtually to the franchisee and individuals attending the Pre-Opening Instructor Training. Franchisees will pay Bft's then-current fee for the Pre-Opening Instructor Training, covering as many trainees as they hire before Bft conducts the training, plus costs for a head coach provided by Bft. Franchisees also pay Bft's fee for the Fundamentals Training Program per trainee after the studio opens.

After the Bft studio opens, new instructors will complete the Pre-Opening Instructor Training with a Head Coach, rather than a head coach provided by Bft, while the Fundamentals Training Program remains virtual. Bft may also offer or require additional refresher training, up to five days annually, without charging a training fee. Franchisees and their instructors must teach classes exactly as specified in the Learning Management System and other training materials provided by Bft. Franchisees cannot add or remove any exercises, stretches, choreography, positions, or music that are not approved by Bft.

Bft may terminate the franchise agreement if the franchisee permits approved services to be provided by someone who has not completed the Pre-Opening Instructor Training. At least one individual who has completed the Pre-Opening Instructor Training must be present at the studio whenever approved services are being provided. Franchisees must ensure that any Pre-Opening Instructor Training at their studio follows System Standards, that participants complete the program and pass any tests, and that no personnel provides instruction without completing the training and passing the test. Bft can require franchisees to demonstrate that all required personnel have completed the Pre-Opening Instructor Training and test as part of its audit rights.
