What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Bft's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must acquire and maintain specific licenses, permits, and authorizations to legally operate their Bft studio. These requirements are dictated by the federal, state, and local laws applicable to the studio's location. This includes ensuring that all music played at the studio by the franchisee or their authorized instructors is properly licensed for use in connection with the approved service or any other purpose permitted by Bft.
Depending on the location of the Bft studio, franchisees may need to comply with state or local laws regarding health and fitness facilities. These laws can mandate that a staff member certified in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other specialized medical training is present during all operating hours. Some jurisdictions may also require automated external defibrillators and/or other first aid equipment on the premises. Additionally, certain states and local governments have specific laws concerning health and fitness facilities, such as those requiring bonds for facilities selling memberships valid for longer than a specified period or mandating escrow deposits for amounts collected from members before the facility opens.
At a minimum, Bft studios are subject to various federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the business. These include laws related to membership agreements, zoning, access for the disabled, and safety and fire standards. Franchisees may need permission from local fire marshals or other local, state, or federal agencies before commencing operations. Furthermore, there may be local licensing and employment regulations, including worker's compensation insurance requirements. It is the franchisee's responsibility to understand and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations to ensure the compliant operation of their Bft studio.
